Leo Varadkar was responding after special investigation into HSE empty property portfolio was raised in the Dail
Leo Varadkar has promised to tackle the vacant and derelict properties scandal through a "carrot and stick" approach.
Ms Bacik highlighted the Irish Mirror special investigation which revealed on Monday the HSE has more than 250 empty properties on its books. And we reported that one of these in Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim, has been lying idle in the middle of the town for the past 23 years. Ms Bacik slammed the Government for "allowing" the "blight and scourge of dereliction and vacancy" to become "embedded".Ms Bacik added: "Everyone should have a home and far too many people in Ireland today do not.
"Yet in this housing crisis, the Government has allowed a culture to embed in our urban centres whereby we see the blight and scourge of dereliction and vacancy taking hold and becoming embedded."In some cases, the State is even contributing to dereliction and vacancy.
