Senior Government ministers and sources told the Irish Mirror that they expect large parts of Budget 2024 will not be finalised until Sunday or Monday
Budget negotiations will go right to the wire and may not meet all public expectations, a number of senior Government sources have warned.
It is now widely expected that the excise duty cut reversals on petrol and diesel that are expected at the end of October will now not go ahead.Speaking in Spain yesterday morning Taoiseach Leo Varadkar confirmed that there would be energy credits announced as part of next week’s Budget. "We understand that as a Government and we have the money to help people with those bills and we will."Cuts to childcare costs for parents are also still up in the air. Minister Roderic O’Gorman was pushing to secure another 25 per cent cut to repeat last year’s measures.
"That's a range of objectives. All have a cost. All are really significant investments in supporting parents and supporting children. There’s some more work to be done over the next number of days."
