Two men have been arrested after a boat which is suspected of smuggling drugs ran aground off the coast of Wexford.
A major security operation is under way involving gardaí, the naval service, Revenue and Customs and the coast guard.Weather conditions have prevented the authorities from boarding or towing the boat to shore and so far no drugs yet found.
The Coast Guard, the RNLI and the R117 helicopter were deployed and after several hours on board in treacherous conditions and bad weather, two men were winched to safety. The Garda Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau has been alerted and suspect the boat could contain a multi-million euro cocaine shipment.
