Some of the responses from Ireland including one girl's teacher taking her somewhere private and 'rubbing her breast and nipple', claiming it would help 'regulate her breathing'
A new survey has revealed some disturbing reports of sexual misconduct by teachers towards their students in Irish secondary schools.
A total of 593 people, 224 from Ireland and 369 from the UK, who experienced some form of sexual harassment or misconduct by a teacher during their time in secondary school completed the survey. Another Irish female who took part commented: “Constantly [flirting]. Friends said he was flirting but I wasn’t sure. When I left school [he] contacted me and asked me on a date.”
The study recruitment social media post read: “Did you experience any sexually inappropriate comments or behaviour from a teacher during your time in secondary school )? Anonymously share your experience in this 5-min survey”. Kate Dawson, Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Greenwich and lead author of the study commented: “The findings indicate that some teachers need specific training regarding what constitutes appropriate and inappropriate behaviour.
