The HSE has noted an increase in Covid-19 infections in Ireland
A new Covid variant EG.5.1 has emerged, and is not responsible for an estimated 1 in 7 new coronavirus cases in the UKHealth officials in Northern Ireland are waiting to hear whether a "small number" of people have tested positive for the new variant, but there are - at the time of publication - no reports of the virus yet documented in the Republic of Ireland.The most common symptoms of the new strain are similar to other variants.
"We have seen waves of increased Covid-19 activity occur, even in the absence of new virus variants, every few months since the start of 2022.”University Hospital Galway and St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny have both issued notices regarding Covid numbers. The number of patients in ICU with a Covid-19 infection did increase slightly during July, but remains low overall.Sales of Covid tests have also increased by a third recently, according to Boots.
