The RTE presenter is high amongst the names being backed to mount a bid for Irish presidency when President Michael D. Higgins’ second term comes to an end in 2025.

Miriam O’Callaghan has firmly ruled out ever running for president despite being tipped as one of the top contenders to take over.

The veteran RTE star said it would be an honour to represent her country and to even be among the names suggested for the role, but said her focus is on her work and her family at home. The Prime Time host said the only way she wants to be a part of the race when the time comes is by interviewing candidates in the running. It comes as the presenter gushed about her love of her life in Ireland and working in RTE, despite a rocky year at the broadcaster.

“It is full of great people. I love going into work everyday and I still love going in,” she told Irish Daily Mirror.
