Mikel Arteta has suggested Aaron Ramsdale has only been dropped for David Raya as part of a rotation policy as Arsenal prepare for a busy run of games.
And after being an unused substitute against Crystal Palace, Fulham and Manchester United, Raya has been given a chance to impress against Everton. Explaining his decision, Arteta told Sky Sports : "I think I mentioned it that we wanted to build a squad with two quality players in each position, with different characteristics, and we have got that now.
Arteta's decision to swap his two goalkeepers comes three days before Arsenal return to the Champions League when they face PSV on Wednesday. The Gunners face a hectic fixture schedule, with the North London Derby next weekend and a Carabao Cup tie against Raya's former club Brentford to come.
