Chloe Mitchell: Two men due in court with one facing murder charge
Detectives investigating the murder and disappearance of Co Antrim woman Chloe Mitchell have charged two men in connection to the case in the early hours of this morning. A 26-year-old man has been charged with murder. A 34-year-old faces the charge of assisting offenders. Both men are due to appear in Ballymena Magistrates’ Court this morning. A murder inquiry was launched yesterday following the discovery of “suspected human remains” in the Ballymena area.
Almost 1,400 international protection applicants have been forced into homelessness this year due to a lack of State accommodation, including four children who are unaccompanied. Some of the refugees arriving in Ireland have found themselves without a place to stay for up to 10 weeks according to a report by the Irish Refugee Council.
Over 5,000 offers of social housing were refused in the past two years, with a variety of reasons given, ananalysis can reveal. An average of one in five offers were turned down, with almost 25,000 offers of social housing made across 2021 and 2022. As many as two in five offers were refused last year alone, according to a county-by-county breakdown. Reasons for offers being refused included houses being too small, lacking in garden or parking space, or being located too close to an ex-partner.
