Gary Neville has provided unseen insight from the gantry as referee Simon Hooper reacted to Luis Diaz's controversial offside strike as Liverpool were denied an opening goal

Gary Neville has admitted referee Simon Hooper looked "sick" when he saw the pitch-side VAR monitor following Luis Diaz's offside goal in Liverpool's 2-1 defeat at Tottenham.

"I'm pretty sure if you look at the ref's face they were thinking of taking the game back and say it was a goal," he said on Twitter. "There is a moment where the ref looks sick! Son Heung-min gave Tottenham the lead in the 36th minute, tapping home Richarlison's low cross. But Tottenham's advantage did not last long as Liverpool equalised on the stroke of half-time through Cody Gakpo, who swivelled and fired the ball into the back of the net.

"We scored an own goal, that is really tough to take but I am really proud. The first red card, Curtis steps on the ball and goes over. Not a bad tackle. It looks different in slow motion. He steps full throttle on the ball and goes over the ball. That is unlucky.
