The Americans mounted an unlikely fight back in Sunday's singles matches, but the Europeans held their nerve to get their hands back on the Ryder Cup at Marco Simone
Team Europe have reclaimed the Ryder Cup at Marco Simone, after the likes of Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland fended off a late charge from their American rivals to win 16.5-11.5. The home side clinched the four points required on day three to secure an emphatic victory for Luke Donald and co.
Things for Rahm however were slightly more tricky, as he took on world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, in a blockbuster opening match. The pair showed exactly why they are two of professional golf's best, as they played across all 18 holes before sharing the spoils thanks to more Rahm brilliance at the last.
In between the impressive European start the Americans secured a point of their own as a resilient Justin Rose was defeated 2&1 by Patrick Cantlay. The home team were quick to hit back though, as Tyrrell Hatton secured their third full point of the day, defeating Brian Harman 3&2. Those nerves were finally settled though courtesy of Tommy Fleetwood. After Rickie Fowler found the water from the tee on 16, Fleetwood capitalised, birdieing the short par four thanks to a concession to move two-up with two to play, and confirming a dramatic Ryder Cup win for the home team.
