An entire town turned up to bid farewell to a beloved dog as he went on his final walk.
After learning that his beloved rescue pup, Mellow, had an aggressive form of cancer, owner Kevin Curry asked his neighbours to join him and Mellow on his final walk around the town.
Since 2019, Kevin and Mellow had walked the familiar streets of Dupont twice a day. But Mellow had become noticeably slower in recent times, and was eventually diagnosed with a fast-spreading lymphoma.So, Curry decided to organise a moving send-off for his pooch, by inviting all his neighbours to join him and Mellow for the canine’s final walk around the block.
Curry also included a map of the planned route and $5 to use for a gift or donate to charity, leaving the note in everyone’s letterboxes.The emotional message captured the neighbourhood’s heart, and dozens turned out to say goodbye to Mellow. “There were at least 25 people [on the first block]. When I looked to the next block, there was another 20. I’m going to say that was how the whole walk went.”
