Oliver Callan kicked off the first newly rebranded 'Nine O'Clock Show' on RTE Radio 1 this week following presenter Ryan Tubridy's departure from the station
Oliver Callan said it was 'unfortunate and disappointing' to be marking the end of an era of Ryan Tubridy - as he kicked off the first rebranded show without his name and theme tune.
He went on to confirm to listeners that the show will go on as the 'Nine O'Clock Show' with a brand new jingle as it enters a new 'in-between' period.READ MORE: Virgin Media sources say] '€170k' makes Tubridy 'more desirable' but they've not considered hiring him "Because Ryan's voice at this hour of the day was pretty iconic and it was a reassuring sound and there was always a comfort of hearing him of a Monday. I say this as a listener… and sometimes the mere presence of his voice, and a certainty of a kind."
"He's not a hated figure, he's not cancelled, he has opportunities aplenty, and we sincerely wish him well." While speculation is now rife over who will take over the slot for good, Callan said he is only a "caretaker" of the slot for now. "We have a new theme tune,” he confirmed before adding: “We're off now into the unknown. The period of the in-between begins. "
