Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe launched a new framework for the civil service for how menopause is dealt with in the workplace
Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe says that he "fully accepts" that life can be more expensive for women than for men "at all stages of life".
The framework gives an overarching structure to guide Civil Service organisations when developing menopause policies and identifies ways in which they can support employees, such as offering workplace adjustments.Research undertaken as part of the strategy found that 82 per cent of adults agreed that menopause is not well understood.
Mr Donohoe said that there was funding available in the health budget for new measures and Health Minister Stephen Donnelly will likely engage with him before the end of the year on what may be introduced. "I fundamentally recognise that the health journey in life for women is different to men and there's different costs and challenges involved in that."
