Wilfried Zaha left Crystal Palace this summer to join Turkish giants Galatasaray, who'll face another of his former clubs, Manchester United, at Old Trafford in the Champions League on Tuesday
"I was in a very bad place." For Wilfried Zaha, that was Manchester, 2013. Signed by Sir Alex Ferguson while helping boyhood club Crystal Palace reach the Premier League via the play-offs, Zaha was one of English football's brightest talents and tipped to become the next supreme wide man who'd make the Old Trafford flanks his own.
Zaha restored his career back at Palace over the next nine seasons, but this summer marked another turning point, finally walking away from Selhurst Park to join Turkish giants Galatasaray. On Tuesday, the Ivory Coast international will return to Old Trafford for a crucial Champions League matchup, hoping to once again show what the Red Devils missed out on by failing to cultivate his undeniable talent.
On Saturday, however, Buruk was finally convinced to hand him his full debut and his new addition delivered. Trailing 1-0 to middling Ankaragucu at their home ground, now named Rams Park, Zaha levelled the scores with an emphatic solo strike early in the second half. Zaha has come back to haunt his old employers before, most notably scoring two goals for Palace to power the Eagles to a 3-1 win against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's United in September 2020. Solskjaer was his manager at Cardiff City in 2014, having been sent there on loan by Moyes following a difficult start to life in Manchester - for both of them.
