The Irish band are gearing up for the first date of their forthcoming residency at the MSG Sphere, which kicks off on September 29th.
Bono and co. will be the first band to open the state-of-the-art venue, and it seems that they are releasing a Vegas-themed song to coincide with it.The video for 'Atomic City' was shot on Freemont Street in Vegas on Saturday night, with the band playing through the song several times. Bono told the crowd"This is the world premiere of ‘Atomic City,’ a rock ‘n’ roll 45-inch tradition of late 70’s post punk if you are interested... Blondie, The Clash.
They were joined on the video shoot by drummer Larry Mullen, although Mullen will not appear with the band at their MSG Sphere residency, being replaced by Bram van der Berg as he recovers from surgery. Bono said that they had recorded the song last week in Sound City studios in Los Angeles, so they were"making a video for a song that isn't finished."
He joked"So we're gonna do it a couple of times because we're making a really low-budget video for it."Watch crowd-shot clips - and hear a snippet of the song - below:
