The three women became trapped in the early hours of Tuesday morning

Firefighters in Portugal rescued three Irish women from a ravine after they fell from the cliffs in Albufeira in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The alert was raised at around 1:46am when one of the women, who was reportedly intoxicated, sat on the edge of the cliff and subsequently slipped, resulting in her becoming trapped. The other two women who were with her, understood to be the woman's friends, then attempted to help, however, they also ended up falling into the ravine and became trapped in the middle of the cliff.
