Englund first portrayed Freddy in the first outing of the franchise, 1984's A Nightmare on Elm Street. He went on to reprise the role for seven more movies, including the 2003 crossover Freddy vs. Jason, which saw the the two horror icons go up against each other.
Unfortunately, it looks like Englund's days as the child-killing monster are over, as he's alluded to himself. But he's not against appearing in a smaller role.“I’m too old and thick to play Freddy now,” Englund says. “I just can’t do fight scenes for more than one take anymore, I’ve got a bad neck and bad back and arthritis in my right wrist. So I have to hang it up, but I would love to cameo.
“I know who icons are,” he says. “I’m not an icon. Maybe Freddy Krueger is, but I’m not. I’m just a character actor, a utility actor who’s been very lucky.”
