Sophie is now in remission and thankfully stable due to medication but she hopes that she will be able to come off her medication someday due to the side effects
A woman who was mistakenly thought to have an eating disorder when her weight plummeted as a teenager, and who lost about four stone before being diagnosed with blood cancer and a spleen “10 times bigger than it should have been”, is now in remission and hopes to one day come off her medication.
Now in remission, Sophie said: “As a teenager I didn’t really notice the weight loss myself until adults started commenting to my parents. “I remember being sat at the table and mum or dad telling me that I needed to eat at least three or four mouthfuls, and feeling like I was a five-year-old. I was struggling to eat my meals as I felt full up and I was craving cucumber and ice cubes.”
The doctor told Sophie that he suspected she had blood cancer and that he was referring her to a hospital. While initially doctors thought Sophie would need a bone marrow transplant down the line, her condition has stabilised with medication which she hopes “will continue”.
