Budget 2024 will be held on October 10 and speculation has already started to mount about what measures will be taken
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has confirmed that there will be energy supports included as part of this year’s budget.
"Our expectation is that electricity and gas prices will fall. But they won’t fall enough or fast enough between now and next winter for us to say that there is no longer a case for support."The details will be in the budget. We'll be able to fund it out of the proceeds of the windfall tax on energy companies. It is a separate pot to the regular budget pot. It is a particular tax being raised for a particular purpose."The easy option, of course, is the energy credits.
"The cost of living remains very high. Inflation is moderating and we do believe it's going to come down again over the next few months," he continued.
