Ireland is bracing for potential record-breaking September heat with models showing that temperatures could reaching 30C later this week. However, Met Eireann has warned that thunderstorms will disrupt the 'mini-heatwave'.
Models show temperatures could reach a scorching 30C on Friday - beating the September all-time high record of 29.1C set in 1906.
However, storms are forecast to smash through the ‘mini-heatwave’ with a thunder and lightning deluge. “On Thursday morning, there will be spells of sunshine and scattered showers which will spread northwards over the country. Some of the showers are likely to be heavy and thundery with the potential for spot flooding. The afternoon will bring plenty of warm sunshine and isolated heavy downpours. A very warm day with highest temperatures generally ranging from 24C to 27C in a light to moderate southerly breeze.
“A lot of mist and fog around on Friday night with well scattered heavy showers or thunderstorms. Lowest temperatures of 15C to 18C in light or variable winds.
