Russia last year barred 52 Irish people from entering the country for alleged Russophobia – including Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Tánaiste Michael Martin.

The number of staff at the Russian Embassy to Ireland has slumped a third since the invasion of Ukraine, it has emerged.

The Irish authorities ordered four embassy workers to leave Ireland a few weeks later for what was termed activities not in accordance with international standards of diplomatic behaviour, but now it has emerged that staffing levels at the Orwell Road site have shrunk even more.The Tánaiste told Labour Wexford TD Brendan Howlin about the reduction in a written parliamentary answer.

“Since 1 January 2023, my Department has been notified, under Article 10 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, of the departure of 3 Diplomats and 2 Administrative and Technical staff at the Embassy of the Russian Federation to Ireland.
