Team Europe ran out 16 1/2 to 11 1/2 winners in Rome after hanging on during the final day.
Celebrations are underway after Team Europe won back the Ryder Cup on Sunday afternoon in Rome, holding off Team USA despite a late fightback.
Team USA would have needed a comeback for the ages and it looked like they were going to do it for a while they were about the pull it off as the the board continued to run red. But Tommy Fleetwood held his nerve to win the Ryder Cup and Bob MacIntyre and Shane Lowry also would have done enough as they won the competition by five points.
Jon Rahm was the first person sent out and produced a stunning finish to earn a half which stopped some early USA momentum while Rory McIlroy beat Sam Burns 3&1 and Viktor Hovland battled past Collin Morikawa. And celebrations are already underway as Europe lift the trophy for the first time since Paris in 2018 and there is no doubt the part will continue long into the night.
