Exclusive: Stephen Donnelly speaks exclusively to the Irish Mirror as part of our campaign
Public consultation on the complete banning of all disposable vapes is to open within weeks, the Irish Mirror can reveal.
Mr Donnelly’s intervention will see a new bill being published which will go further than the present one before the Oireachtas which will ban vape sales to under 18s.He said: “We’re planning to ban the sale of vapes to children, to anyone, children and teenagers, under the age of 18.“We’re also bringing in under this bill a licensing system, there’s been less focus on this but actually it’s important, so, for both vapes and cigarettes, or tobacco.
“And then as soon as the President signs it, hoping he will sign it, I’ll move immediately to regulate on the sale of vapes to minors.”He told the Mirror: “Now, critically though, there’s a second bill that’s already underway, in fact, the public consultation for it is opening up in November. “The second bill will look at flavouring, it will look at packaging, one area I’m really keen that we come down on is the point of sale advertising.“So, flavouring, packaging, further on advertising for example, point of sale, and then, one of the ones I’d like to bring in as well, and I’m talking to Ossian Smith about it and see whether he might be drafting his own bill, but if he’s happy for it to be included in this second bill, we’re also going to move on disposable vapes.
Minister Donnelly went on to explain how being a father has influenced his approach to regulating the sale of vapes in Ireland.
