A Wexford family laid bare their struggles as they receive no support or help for their nine-year-old autistic son who also struggles with mental health issues
A mother called for support as she shared her son Harrison's story.
As well as being autistic, Harrison's behaviour is further complicated by several mental health illnesses, including anxiety, oppositional defiance disorder, pathological demand avoidance, and possible bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Audrey and Huw sought psychiatric assistance abroad for Harrison. A psychiatrist in Spain prescribed antipsychotic medication, providing temporary relief, but resulting in significant side effects which lead to Harrison being no longer able to take them.
Another wrote: "This for my family, is becoming an election issue. God our country is so unhelpful to those who truly need it. Begging and begging, going public with private family matters, being left with no pride and feeling disloyal to the person needing the care. I think its so unfair!"
