The opening night of the Rose of Tralee 2023 got underway on Monday as viewers tuned into RTÉ One to watch the first ever co-hosted addition of the show.
For the first time, RTÉ changed the format of Monday night's show to include a co-host, fellow RTÉ presenter and Carlow woman Kathryn Thomas, to join Daithí on stage interviewing the rosesSpeaking ahead of the festival, Ó'Sé praised the choice of Thomas as co-host, saying: "I know Kathryn for around 20 years, we're good buddies."
The reaction to the show's brand new format was mixed on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, as commenters rushed to share their witty takes on how events were playing out. Appearing to get the wrong end of the stick, one man joked: "Canadian girlfriend just asked me if Kathryn Thomas was Daithi O Shea's wife... it's gonna be a long night" whilst one woman wrote: "Am liking Daithi and Kathryn".
