The move comes as Dublin City Council looks to reduce traffic congestion and improve public transport times in the city
Private cars have been permanently banned from College Green in Dublin City Centre in an effort to reduce traffic congestion and improve public transport punctuality.
The section of roadway, known as a Bus Gate, means only public transport and cyclists can avail of its access at College Green, outside Trinity College. Previously, private cars were allowed access outside the hours of 7am to 7pm.Local Access to the Dame Street/College Green area and to locations such as the Bank of Ireland and Fosters Place will be maintained for general traffic, however they cannot exit using the Bus Gate.
The aim of the new ban on private cars in the area is in an effort to improve public transport times in Dublin City Centre.
