Fans proud but disappointed as the curtain came down on Ireland's Rugby World Cup campaign.
Irish rugby fans in Galway were readying themselves from early yesterday for the match against the All Blacks.
Those who were still outside, just tourists exploring the medieval streets, the last few stragglers making their way to a pub to watch the game, or the minority, not bothered either way. But that despondency lifted a short time later, when hometown hero Bundee Aki scored Ireland’s first try. Fans were welcoming the fight back and breathing a little easier, as the clock ticked towards 30 minutes.
"We were! That’s exactly what we’re doing," said Jay McIntyre, who was following the action with his dad Kevin. Those hoping for a more relaxed second half would have been disappointed by the ebb and flow of the action when play resumed. "And honestly, if we had to be beaten by somebody, it was going to be them. No regrets, super proud of Johnny.
