A spontaneous encampment of over 200 people has taken root in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in Valencia, following a housing protest. The demonstrators, mostly young adults, have organized into committees for food, security, and outreach, and have declared their intention to remain until their demands are met.
More than 200 people remain camped out in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, with plans to continue the protest for several more days. The spontaneous encampment, which began Saturday evening after a housing demonstration, has successfully passed its first night.
The campers, mostly young adults aged 20 to 30, are organized into commissions and operate via assemblies. They have established various stations for food, signage, and security. A spokesperson announced that the camp will remain 'until necessary' and expressed determination not to be evicted from the plaza. The group is inspired by previous protests like the Sol camp in Madrid, using similar street-naming conventions for organizational purposes.
