Ireland suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Netherlands at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday night, a result which all but ends their hopes of qualifying for Euro 2024
Lee Carsley is the frontrunner to replace Stephen Kenny as Republic of Ireland manager, with pressure continuing to mount on the Boys in Green boss.Former Ireland international Carsley has emerged as the 3/1 frontrunner with BoyleSports to be the country's next manager. The former Everton midfielder and current England U-21 boss earned 40 caps as an Irish international between 1998 and 2008 and he now heads the list of possible replacements with the bookies.
Kenny insisted he expects to see out the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign following the Dutch defeat, but BoyleSports has now suspended betting on him being axed before the end of the year after the result left Ireland fourth in their group with only three points bagged from a possible 15. Ghana head coach Chris Hughton is 11/2 second favourite should a vacancy arise, with Roy Keane a 13/2 shot to make a return to management in the Irish dugout. Former players Robbie Keane and Damien Duff are also in contention at 10/1 apiece, while a third stint at the helm for Mick McCarthy is rated less likely at 16/1.
Lawrence Lyons, Spokesperson for BoyleSports commented: “More and more believe Stephen Kenny is on the thinnest of ice now and attention has quickly turned to a replacement, with Lee Carsley singled out as a likely target for the FAI.”7/1 Anthony Barry16/1 Mick McCarthyGet the latest sports headlines straight to your inbox by signing up for free email alerts.
