Scott Morrison has thrown his support behind Mark McGowan's decision to delay bringing down Western Australia's hard border.
Western Australia was due to bring down its hard border on February 5 under plans unveiled by Mr McGowan in December to align with the state hitting the 90 per cent double dose vaccination milestone.
"I mean, Omicron, as we learnt over the summer, is a completely different virus," Mr Morrison told Gareth Parker on 6PR. Mr Morrison said he was"sure" Mr McGowan would take the next step in Western Australia's reopening when he believes the state's health system is"ready to go". Mr Morrison said the federal government had been investing in Western Australia's health system and a new GST deal had put the state in good stead to fund hospitals.
