Revenue officers stopped and searched a freight unit that had disembarked a ferry from Dunkirk, France
A man has been arrested after nearly €10 million worth of suspected cocaine was uncovered in a freight unit on Wednesday.
Revenue Customs Officers recovered €9.3 million worth of suspected cocaine at Rosslare Europort in Wexford on Wednesday morning after a freight unit that had disembarked a ferry at the port was stopped and searched. Approximately 133kg of suspected cocaine was seized by Revenue Customs Service with an estimated value of €9.3 million.A man aged in his 30s was subsequently arrested and taken to a Garda Station in Co Wexford where he remains detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1996. A spokesperson for Gardaí said that investigations into the seizure remain ongoing.
A spokesperson for Revenue told The Irish Mirror that the discovery was made when Revenue officers, assisted by Revenue’s mobile X-ray scanner, stopped and searched a UK-registered accompanied freight unit that had disembarked a ferry from Dunkirk, France.This is the second major drug haul from the port in recent weeks. Just two weeks ago Gardaí announced that a cocaine shipment worth €11.4 million was found stashed in a horsebox at Rosslare Harbour.
Officers from Revenue's customs section searched the horsebox at about 1:30pm on Thursday, July 13 after it had disembarked from a ferry and during the course of the operation, the officers found an estimated 163kg of suspected cocaine.Two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were arrested in relation to this seizure.
