Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary said he’d scrap some of RTE’s top shows including Joe Duffy's Liveline if he was running RTÉ.
"Would I like to see RTÉ survive? Yes, clearly. I think the news area in RTÉ does a very good job, but there's lots of areas in RTÉ that, frankly, if it disappeared tomorrow I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it." He went on to heap praise on rival station Newstalk, and former Late Late Show host Pat Kenny, describing their shows as ‘terrific’.
Speaking of possible solutions, Director General Kevin Bakhurst said RTE is trying to leverage everything it can, and revealed RTÉ’s Dublin 4 Montrose site is currently being professionally evaluated with a sale on the table. The comments come after Tánaiste Micheál Martin also cautioned against calls for the broadcaster to dispose of the site and said he is not convinced it is a sensible step.
