Finance Minister Michael McGrath has thrown cold water on RTE’s calls for over €50million in bailout funds from the taxpayer.

This indicates that the station won’t get the full €56 million they want, having already asked for a €35million bailout and with licence fees down €21 million so far.He said: “Earlier this summer I extended the remit of NewEra to include the potential to examine RTE, so they are examining the ask that has been made for additional interim funding and they will report to Minister Martin and Minister Donohoe and they will conduct a rigorous analysis.
