The English actor, who is now 90, made the announcement during an interview on BBC Radio 4 over the weekend. Having previously hinted at his retirement during an interview with The Telegraph last month, he said on Radio 4: “I keep saying I’m going to retire. Well, I am now.
And I thought, ‘Well, I might as well leave with all this — I’ve got wonderful reviews. What have I got to do to beat this?’’ Caine’s most recent role was in ’The Great Escaper’, in which he played WWII veteran Bernard Jordan in the real-life story of his escape from a care home to attend the 70th anniversary of D-Day celebrations in 2014. It was released earlier this month. ’You don’t have leading men at 90, you’re going to have young handsome boys and girls,’ he said.
