Storm Betty is on the way as the southeast of the country is set to be battered by wind and rain, with Met Eireann warning of potential power outages and disruptions
Met Eireann have updated their weather warnings this afternoon as Storm Betty is set to hit the country.Met Eireann have warned that Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford could experience "structural damage" and "power outages".In an alert on their website, they write: "Late this evening and tonight, Storm Betty will bring south to southwest gales with severe gusts of up to 130 km/hr. Spells of heavy rain and possible coastal flooding.
A Status Yellow rain warning is set to come into effect from 2pm today for Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wexford, Munster and Galway, which will expire at 3am Saturday morning. A Status Yellow rain warning will come into effect at 5pm for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Longford, Louth, Meath, Westmeath, Wicklow, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo - this will continue until 6am Saturday.
A Status Yellow wind warning will come into effect in Leinster and Munster from 9pm this evening until 6am Saturday morning. There is also a Status Orange marine warning for a storm from Wicklow Head to Hook Head to Mizen Head and on the Irish Sea South of Anglesey. Met Eireann write: "Southeast winds, veering southwest will reach storm force 10 for a time on Irish coastal waters from Wicklow Head to Hook Head to Mizen Head and on the south Irish Sea."Join our new WhatsApp community!
