Several units of the National Ambulance Service and Wexford fire Service attended the scene

A man has been airlifted to hospital with significant injuries following a suspected gas explosion at a house in North Wexford earlier this evening.

The huge explosion rocked the village of Camolin shortly after 3pm and a whole host of emergency vehicles rushed to the scene just outside the quiet village. at Ballydaniel Court with huge flames emanating from the bungalow, which has been destroyed.There were two people in the house at the time, only one of whom was injured. A man in his 40s was treated by paramedics at the scene before the decision was taken to call on the NAS Air Corps 112 helicopter to transfer him to Dublin.Fire service units from Gorey, Enniscorthy, Bunclody and Wexford were still battling the blaze as the helicopter rushed the man to hospital.

A spokesperson for the fire service was able to confirm that a gas explosion had taken place in the kitchen in the house with massive damage caused. It is thought it may have been caused in part by a gas hob. The spokesperson described the injuries suffered by the man taken away by helicopter as being 'severe'.
