More than 300 people were in Irish hospitals with Covid-19 as of Friday
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said he does not believe that a legal mask mandate will be reimposed by the Irish Government this winter.
There were 305 people in hospital with Covid-19 at 8am on Friday. Some 46 new cases were admitted to hospital in the previous 24 hours, with 32 discharges. This was a decrease on the previous day’s figures, however, when 308 people were in hospital.Speaking at the Fota Wildlife Park in Cork on Friday, the Taoiseach said that there will continue to be waves of Covid-19.
“We're in a very different phase when it comes to dealing with Covid,” he said. “It's become a virus that is going to be with us forever. There will be waves of Covid just like there are waves of flu. The number of people in hospital with Covid-19 has fallen in recent weeks following a dramatic rise in cases last month. On August 15, there were 435 confirmed cases in Irish hospitals. This was up from a low of 63 on July 2.
