Ireland legend Keith Wood believes his namesake Earls has done enough to book his place on the flight to France when Ireland jet out for the Rugby World Cup in a week's time.
Earls was sprung from the bench against England last weekend and Ireland's newest centurion capped a stunning cameo with an acrobatic try that blew the roof off the Aviva Stadium.
At 35 years old and with a lengthy injury history, many felt Earls' days as a key member of the Irish squad may be over. Wood however, believes the Munster legend has plenty of fire left in the belly and has backed the 'box office' veteran to make Andy Farrell's final squad. "Keith Earls is box office and last week he was pure box office," Wood told Off The Ball this morning.
"I even love the fact that he was beginning to doubt whether he would get on and that this thing was half a sham. There's an absolutely unaffected humility in the way he goes about pretty much everything."I think there's a spark about him. And for me, I think he's on the plane." Andy Farrell's 38 man squad will be whittled down to 33 in the coming days as Ireland finalise their preparations for the tournament which kicks off on September 9.
