Ireland's recent June record has been poor, with defeats to Armenia and Greece in 2022 and this year respectively.
Keith Andrews has warned that the June international window will continue to be a tricky one for Ireland - as long as there is a reliance on players from the Championship. There was the shock 1-0 reversal to Armenia last year. And this time around, they produced a display that Andrews described as “a blot on the copybook” in Athens when they lost 2-1 to Greece.
“It’s not easy, that’s the reality of it, six weeks between end of seasons to the game in Greece isn’t easy. “I do think the reaction was blown out of all proportion in terms of some comment around the scoreline and the level of the defeat. After the leggy performance in Armenia 12 months earlier, Stephen Kenny organised a warm-weather training camp in southern Turkey ahead of the Athens game.“What’s your solution?” Andrews asked.
