'You lose big players like Johnny Sexton, who will be hard to replace, impossible to replace, but we have a lot of players coming through and it’s a young squad'
Dan Sheehan was gutted after Ireland's quarter-final loss to the All Blacks - but was more disappointed for Johnny Sexton than himself or anyone else.
"It’s just disappointing that we let Johnny go in a quarter-final. He deserved a lot more, the player that he is. "We didn’t give up there until the end - and those 30-plus phases at the end. But there were a few big moments in that game that switched the momentum, and it was tough to get back. "The amount of people that I’ve had personally travel over for me, but then every game is a home game here.
"I grew up watching him. To be in the same team as him has been crazy, and I can’t thank him enough for how he showed me the game, and the leadership he has shown."In training, you might be playing Dragons or Zebre and on the Monday in training he’ll be screaming at people to make sure standards are set."He’s not a man of huge moments, but like he’s just consistently a competitor and someone that doesn’t come around very often.
It was a tough night for Sheehan on the pitch, too, with the All Blacks going after Ireland's lineout.
