UNIFIL reported over the weekend that its headquarters in Naqoura was hit by a rocket. No Irish troops or troops on other peacekeeping missions were injured.

Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin has said that the Government is not considering removing Irish troops from Lebanon as the conflict in Gaza and Israel continues to escalate.

UNIFIL reported over the weekend that its headquarters in Naqoura was hit with a rocket. No Irish troops or troops on other peacekeeping missions were injured.Asked if Ireland was considering removing its troops from Lebanon, Mr Martin said it was not and it would not be appropriate to do so. “I spoke to the Chief of Staff and I met with the military leadership team just to have an overview of the situation.“There have been very difficult, volatile moments during that long history of support for peacekeeping in Lebanon, in the 70s and 80s, and indeed during the war in the early 2000s.
