The campaigner and co-founder of iCare Housing has written to the Minister for Housing expressing"grave concern" regarding the charitable homeless sector in Ireland.

Mr Hall, who had offered, to assist with issues that have emerged at the housing and homeless charity, pointed out that his offer was not accepted and he expressed fear that the Trust"is in a very precarious position".Today, the Charities Regulator announced that it had appointed inspectors to carry out an investigation into the Peter McVerry Trust.

He said the delay"in sorting this" was unhelpful to all concerned and that the withdrawal of donations to such charities would also cause an immediate impact. While he said his overriding concern was for the service users; the knock-on effect was that the homeless, staff, volunteers and trustees of each charity suffer.

"Local Authorities have a good idea what these services cost and they still accept quotes below this," he said. Mr Hall said there was no room for complacency, adding that service users who the charities are helping, must be protected.
