An Garda Síochána has hailed the launch of six e-bikes in Dublin to help officers fight crime quicker in the city.
Gardaí trained and qualified as pedal cyclists and attached to Store Street and Pearse Street Garda Stations in Dublin’s City Centre have begun using the vehicles.The move comes amid public outcry over safety in the city. There has been a spate of incidents in the capital this summer, including the attack on US tourist Stephen Termini on Talbot Street.
"Their use will allow Gardaí to cover larger areas for longer periods of time as the e-bikes owned by An Garda Síochána are up to 250w, can operate up to 25kmph and have a motor that operates when pedalling in a power assisted role.
