Five men, aged in their teens, 20s and 40s, were arrested and charged following the fight
Gardai were outnumbered after a massive brawl broke out on a busy street in Galway city centre yesterday.The incident took place on Williamgate Street on Friday at around 3.20pm on Friday afternoon, to the shock of onlookers.In two videos seen by Galway Beo, the brawls broke out with a number of people involved in a fight as gardai tried to calm the situation.
As many as four men throw full force punches at each other but eventually another two gardai join their fellow officer in successfully splitting the fight up. One man in a blue shirt appears to be holding his head, possibly as a result of the fight. Gardai restrain him with the video stopping just as one guard reaches for his handcuffs.
More punches are thrown as children join the crowd and begin recording it with their phone. Towards the end of the video, the two men stand up to each other and begin to talk. In a statement, a garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a public order incident that occurred on Williamsgate Street, Galway yesterday afternoon, Friday 8th September 2023.
