2fm's Fergal D’Arcy: 'Last year was like a country song, the dog died, I lost my job, had a break up' Read full interview here:
In light of Blathnaid Treacy's joyous new addition, former Today FM star Fergal D'Arcy has made a temporary leap to the 2FM lineup.
"My last year was like a country and western song , the dog died, I lost my job, had a break up, some guy crashed into me and wouldn't pay for the damage he caused. I couldn't turn a corner and the Eastender's theme tune would go off in my head."Naturally feeling the nerves, Fergal added, "There is a lot of anxiety that goes with this. You're in a new studio, the equipment and operating system is different, you haven't broadcast in over a year.
Despite the disappointment, Fergal was adamant to do what he loves: "At that time I made a very mature decision not to throw my toys out of the pram, and finish in a dignified and graceful manner, because I knew I wanted to get back on air as soon as possible and the only option to stay on the national scene was RTE. So by all accounts my attitude was use the adversity of these recent losses to be the motivation to get you back on air.
"I've always had huge respect for RTE as an organisation, despite recent controversies. And being part of the staff at 2FM, the station I listened to throughout my childhood with all the greats. After leaving Today FM, Fergal continued to travel across various towns in Ireland, participating in festivals, charity events, and meeting friends. Everywhere he went, people would inquire about his return.
