The Irishman kicked for 49.8 yards off five punts in an impressive first showing in the NFL.
Irishman Daniel Whelan made a dream start to life in the NFL and impressed for the Green Bay Packers as they beat the Chicago Bears 38-20 on the opening weekend of the new season.
Off five kicks, the punter recorded a more than respectful average of 49.8 yards, a tally which has him in a tie for seventh best average after one week of games in the 2023/24 NFL season.The 24-year-old, who moved to the United States from Ireland alongside his family aged 13, exhibited his big boot when he blasted the ball fully 68 meters. The distance was only bettered by the Seattle Seahawks' Michael Dickson and Carolina Panthers' Johnny Hekker.
He also provided the holding role for the kicker Anders Carlson. His catch, snap, and placement allowed his fellow rookie the opportunity to slot a field goal - his first in the NFL - from 52 yards out.
