When watering your plants you need to be careful
It's not uncommon to have a period of high temperatures or for the country to be hit with a hosepipe ban at some point over the summer.
For example, putting mulch in your flowerbeds means you won’t have to water as frequently. There are so many options available – including gravel, bark, and any kind of organic matter.Mulch doesn’t just keep weeds down, but it also helps to prevent water loss from the soil due to evaporation. You should also get into the habit of collecting rainwater in the first few months of the year.
It’s also worth introducing some drought resistant plants to your garden. There are plants which will resist periods of drought better than others. Many plants have modified over the millennia to cope with high temperatures. Our garden loses water in two ways: one is through evaporation and the other is through transpiration.
