Vera Pauw's departure had many fans making a comparison to Stephen Kenny.
After four years in charge during which time women's football has transformed in this country, Pauw leaves a little over a month after overseeing Ireland's first appearance at an International tournament.
The decision to not keep Pauw on has split opinion. It is believed that the Dutchwoman's relationship with players had soured a little, with her on-field argument with captain Katie McCabe evidence of this. In her four years in charge, Pauw helped Ireland reach a first ever World Cup, narrowly missed out on qualification for a European Championship and rose to their best World ranking in history.
"Something is seriously Rotten in Irish Football when #verapauw is facing the sack having led the women to their 1st finals and yet Stephen Kenny hangs in there, despite a disastrous showing," said one Twitter user.
