The Ryder Cup gets underway in Rome on Friday and Team Europe are doing all they can to regain the trophy after being thrashed at Whistling Straights two years ago
Europe have made the decision to deploy slower greens at the Marco Simone course ahead of the Ryder Cup in an attempt to secure an advantage.
The last time the Americans won on away soil was at The Belfry in 1993. And it appears that Europe captain Luke Donald is doing everything he can to protect that record in Italy this year. A recurring theme over the history of the Ryder Cup has been the home team gaining an adantage with the course's configuration. Europe appear to hope that slower greens will throw the Americans off their game, as they prefer the quicker ones of their homeland. At the Masters, US Open, The Players Championship and US PGA Championship, the green speeds can often be upwards of 13.
