Ahead of the appointment of Vera Pauw's permanent successor, the FAI have been busy ringing in the changes in the women's national team.
Diane Caldwell says she doesn’t fear the expectation that Ireland’s World Cup campaign and the fallout from Vera Pauw’s departure has heaped upon the Girls in Green.By claiming that “results and performances” were “in spite of Vera being our coach,” all eyes will be on Saturday’s historic Aviva Stadium clash with Northern Ireland. And now that Pauw is no longer in the hotseat, it’s up to the players to deliver.
Day one post-Pauw saw the introduction of a sports nutritionist, a performance coach and a sports psychologist - all on the back of the FAI review that led to the Dutchwoman’s exit. She added: “You delegate and you rely on the knowledge and expertise of people in those areas, so it is only going to be advantageous for the group.”
“I have been on this team 17 years and for 12 of those years, I was under the John Delaney regime and he spoke to us once, in the Netherlands, in those 12 years.
